Come build the missing middle.
We’re a small team doing work that doesn’t have enough people in it yet. If that sounds like your kind of problem, we’d like to hear from you.
A farmer’s share is the portion of every food dollar that reaches the person who grew the food. That share has declined for decades. But the reason it declined isn’t usually something happening on the farm — it’s the missing middle: the aggregation, processing, distribution, and market infrastructure that regional food used to run through and largely no longer does.
Rebuild that middle and value starts circulating locally again, in farm margins and in the rural economies around them. That’s the work. It’s unglamorous, it’s specific, and it’s mostly done by people who are willing to learn a supply chain from the inside.
The work is real and it’s early
A Farmer’s Share is a Public Benefit Corporation working across New York, Kentucky, and Alabama. We help farms reach wholesale, institutional, and retail buyers. We build data and aggregation tools for nonprofits and food organizations. We advise city and county governments and public agencies rebuilding local economies with agriculture as the anchor.
Nothing here is inherited. Whoever takes a role builds the function, and the way they build it becomes the way we do it.
We hire for how you work
We read résumés, but they’re not the whole picture. We’re more interested in whether you follow through, whether you can hold a long timeline without losing the thread, and whether you care about the outcome for the farms on the other end.
If a role sounds like you but you don’t think you meet every requirement, apply anyway.
Small team, direct access
You’ll work with the Co-Founders. Decisions get made in days, not quarters. What you learn in the field shapes the strategy, because there’s no layer between you and the people setting it.
Open Positions
Wholesale Food Sales Representative
New York & Northern New Jersey · Remote, with travel
This is the first sales position at A Farmer’s Share, and it’s deliberately structured as a founding one. Until now, sales has been carried by the founders. You’ll build the pipeline, open the accounts, learn what we can actually deliver, and tell us what you’re seeing in the market. As wholesale volume grows, we anticipate creating a full-time sales leadership position — and the contractor in this engagement will be the first person considered for it.
How to apply
Send your resume and a brief note to application@afarmersshare.com. Please write the job title in the subject line.
No need for a full cover letter — a few paragraphs is plenty. We’d just like to know more about you. Tell us: what should we know about your experience? And after learning more about our organization, what excites you about this role?
We read every application and will respond to each email.
A Farmer’s Share Corporation does not discriminate in hiring or contracting on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic. Women, veterans, and justice-impacted applicants are encouraged to apply.
